Brighton College is one of the most successful independent schools in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1845 by William Aldwin Soames, the College received its royal charter from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. It sits in the Kemptown district of Brighton — on the south coast, less than an hour from central London. The historic campus, with its Victorian Gothic architecture designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, is home to more than 1,400 pupils from the ages of 3 to 18 across five divisions: Pre-Prep, Prep, Lower School, Senior School and Sixth Form. The Sunday Times named Brighton College Independent School of the Decade in 2020, and the College has consistently ranked among the top three co-educational schools in England for A-Level results in recent years. In 2025, Brighton College achieved a record 45 offers from Oxford and Cambridge — roughly one in five Upper Sixth pupils.
